Tooth Removal – What to Expect at London Dental Arts
Having a tooth removed can naturally be a source of worry or anxiety. Wherever possible, we will always endeavour to save the tooth. However, if extraction is necessary, rest assured we will do everything we can to ensure the experience is as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
Why Might a Tooth Need to Be Removed?
Tooth extractions are most commonly required when a tooth is damaged beyond practical repair. Common reasons for removal include:
Severe tooth decay or infection, making restoration unfeasible or overly complex
Advanced gum disease, where extraction may be necessary to protect surrounding tissues and bone
A tooth preventing the proper eruption or alignment of neighbouring teeth
Wisdom teeth, which are frequently removed either pre- or post-eruption
Orthodontic treatment, where space may need to be created to properly align the remaining teeth
What to Expect During the Procedure
We begin by numbing the area with a local anaesthetic to ensure you remain comfortable throughout the procedure. While you may feel some pressure as the tooth is being gently removed, you should not feel any pain. In most cases, the procedure takes only a few minutes.
