Overcrowded teeth occur when there is simply a lack of room within your jaw for all your teeth to fit normally. When left untreated, overly crowded teeth can cause an increased chance of gum disease as your teeth are harder to clean.

Widely spaced teeth occur when you have extra space within your jaw. This could be due to small teeth, abnormal jaw bones, genetics, missing teeth, or tongue protrusion. Spacing issues can cause some periodontal diseases, including gingivitis and periodontitis, if left untreated, can lead to tooth loss.

Crossbites occur when the upper and lower jaws are both misaligned. It usually causes one or more upper teeth to bite on the inside of the lower teeth and can happen on both the front or the sides of the mouth. This issue can cause wear of the teeth, gum disease, and bone loss.

OPG Panoramic X-Ray

As part of your consultation with our Invisalign dentist at London Dental Arts in Forest Hill, you will undergo a panoramic X-ray to ensure you are suitable for the treatment you require.

Panoramic radiography, also known as a panoramic X-ray, is a two-dimensional (2D) dental imaging technique that captures your entire mouth in a single image. This includes your teeth, upper and lower jaws, as well as the surrounding structures and tissues.

The jaw has a curved, horseshoe-like shape, but the panoramic X-ray produces a flat image of this curved structure. It is primarily used to provide detailed views of the bones and teeth. Unlike traditional intraoral X-rays, which require film to be placed inside the mouth, panoramic X-ray films are housed within the machine itself, making the process quick and comfortable.

Your Invisalign Journey

1. Book your Invisalign consultation at our Forest Hill practice
Spend up to an hour with one of our Diamond Invisalign Providers who will thoroughly assess your teeth, discuss your goals, and take a detailed OPG X-ray to show exactly what needs to be done and why.

2. Digital 3D scan and ClinCheck preview
We’ll take a high-resolution 3D scan of your teeth and send it to Invisalign. Within a week, you’ll receive your personalised ClinCheck – a digital simulation that shows how your teeth will move and what your final smile will look like. Once approved, your custom aligners will be ordered.

3. Fit your first aligners and continue with regular reviews
Return to our Forest Hill practice for the fitting of your first set of aligners, ensuring a comfortable and precise fit. You’ll then visit us every 6–8 weeks for progress checks, minor adjustments, and to collect your next set of aligners.

4. Perfect your smile and retain the results
Once treatment is complete, we’ll review your results and make any final refinements needed. You’ll then receive your retainers – worn only at night – to maintain your new smile. Permanent fixed retainers are also available if preferred.
