This condition involves inflammation of the supporting tissues around the teeth, the formation of periodontal pockets (where the gums begin to pull away from the teeth), and the gradual destruction of the bone and connective tissue. Without appropriate treatment, periodontitis can ultimately lead to tooth loss.
