Single Tooth Implant Forest Hill & Dulwich

If you’re in need of a single-tooth implant, Dr Arman Barfeie in Forest Hill is here to help. A single-tooth implant offers a long-lasting and natural-looking solution for replacing a missing or damaged tooth. The procedure involves placing a titanium implant into the jawbone, which acts as a secure foundation for the replacement tooth.

Dental implants are small, rod-like posts that serve as a foundation for replacement teeth. Placed directly into the jawbone, they function much like natural tooth roots, providing stable support for crowns, bridges, or dentures.

Each implant consists of a titanium screw, which integrates with the surrounding bone, and an abutment that connects the implant to the visible dental crown. Titanium is the material of choice due to its biocompatibility — it is well-tolerated by the body and encourages the bone to fuse with its surface, ensuring long-term stability.

With proper care and good oral hygiene, dental implants can last a lifetime.

Immediate Placement Dental Implants

Dr Arman Barfeie in Forest Hill offers immediate implant placement — a highly effective method where a dental implant is inserted at the same time the natural tooth is extracted.

What Is Immediate Placement?

Immediate placement means the titanium implant is positioned in the jawbone during the same visit as the tooth extraction. This approach can be beneficial as it preserves the natural contours of the gum and bone. The implant is typically left to heal beneath the gum for approximately three months. If bone grafting or soft tissue reconstruction is required, healing may take longer. Once healed, the final crown is fitted.

In select cases, a temporary replacement tooth can be attached to the implant immediately — a procedure known as immediate loading.

The Process: Step-by-Step

  1. Tooth Extraction & Site Preparation
The damaged or failing tooth is removed, and the socket is thoroughly cleaned to eliminate infection or debris.

  2. Bone Assessment
We evaluate the condition of the surrounding bone to determine if the implant can be placed immediately or if the site needs time to heal.

  3. Grafting (if required)

    • Bone Graft: Used when the socket is too large or fragile, bone grafting strengthens and thickens the area to support the implant.

    • Gum Graft: If the gum is too thin, a graft may be performed to improve tissue thickness and aesthetics.

Immediate Loading

If the implant achieves sufficient stability at the time of placement, a temporary crown can be attached right away. This allows for better aesthetics during the healing period. However, the crown is not used for heavy biting or chewing until the implant has fully integrated with the bone — a process called osseointegration, which usually takes 2–3 months. Once integration is complete, a permanent porcelain crown is fitted.

Implants After Earlier Extraction

If the tooth was removed at an earlier time, we follow a similar process. Our experienced implantologist will assess bone quality and determine whether a graft is needed. In some cases, an immediate crown can still be placed on the new implant.
